Professional Development Committee Mission Statement

MASL Professional Development Committee will support school librarians by identifying standards, initiatives and best practices which promote opportunities for growth, connections and empowerment. 

  • MASL PD stands for providing knowledge and application strategies for current standards, and initiatives in school libraries. 
  • MASL PD stands for fostering a community of connected professional learners committed to each other’s success and the success of Maryland school library programs. 
  • MASL PD stands for promotion of innovative strategies, technologies, and literacy practices. 
  • MASL PD stands for empowering school librarians as leaders to showcase successful programs, initiatives, and advocacy efforts.


  • MASL- A state conference for school librarians. Held on the third Friday in October annually.
  • Common Ground- MASL supports this conference as a member of CEASOM. Held at the end of April and beginning of May annually.
  • MLA/DLA- Maryland and Delaware Library Associations sponsor this conference in May annually.
  • SOMLA- Conference for the State of Maryland Literacy Association. Held annually at the beginning of April.
  • ALA Annual- National Librarian conference held at the end of June annually.
  • AASL- National School Librarian conference held in November every other year.
  • ISTE- International technology in education conference held at the end of June annually.


MASL provides learning opportunities throughout the year in the form of face to face workshops, twitter chats, and virtual webinars.  Visit the calendar to learn about upcoming offerings.

MASL works with our MSDE Representative to develop MSDE for-credit courses for school librarians. Courses are on topics such as the National School Library Standards.
