Advocacy and Storytelling

By using stories and data, you can communicate the value of school libraries to funders and policy makers. This session will cover several practical strategies for using stories to share the impact of your work with officials.

Faciliator: Dr. Tamar Sarnoff

Tamar Sarnoff has been the Director of the Public Libraries and State Networking Branch of the Maryland State Library Agency (MSLA) since 2017.  In this capacity, she supports library development and oversees the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant program. She has had many roles in her 10+ years in urban, suburban and academic libraries before joining MSLA. Her interests include ensuring that public libraries are relevant, exciting destinations, and that libraries are able to tell compelling stories about the impact of service on individuals and communities. She received her B.A. and M.L.I.S. from SUNY at Albany, and her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona’s Department of Communication.

1 hour of Continuing Education Credit will be awarded to attendees.
